The Best Week of the Year
Happy week of Thanksgiving, everybody! I love this week. It’s a short work week, you get to watch football and eat tasty food all day on Thursday, and in the Chappell household, we decorate for Christmas on Friday.
The Great Decorating Debate
I’ve been a steadfast supporter of decorating for Christmas AFTER Thanksgiving is over. But I know a lot of you out there probably decorate before Thanksgiving. And I know quite a few people who decorate the day after Halloween. I’m not saying those people are crazy, but I think that’s a bit too early. People are still recovering from their sugar comas and have decaying pumpkins on their front porch, and then some folks are decorating trees and hanging stockings. Not in my house.
The “Happy Wife, Happy Life” Compromise
Now, if my wife had her way, we’d definitely be decorated by mid-November at the latest. But I’m a guy who likes to have one holiday at a time. But you know what they say, happy wife, happy life. So we have a home office she works in, and I will put up her tree in there, and she will decorate it. And if that makes her happy, cool. I can live with one tree up.
Going Full Griswold (But Not Until Black Friday)
But the rest of the stuff goes up on Black Friday, and that’s that. And we’re pretty much just like the Griswolds in Christmas Vacation. We go ALL out when we decorate. I’m talking 9 trees in various rooms in our house that are all 7-9 feet tall, along with a ton of other decorations. And once we’re done decorating, I’ll try to share some pics of them all.
Your Turn: Before or After?
So what about you? Do you decorate before or after Thanksgiving? And if you don’t decorate at all, that’s cool too. It’s way less work.
Happy Thanksgiving!
But before I go, just let me say I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving! I’m grateful for all of our awesome listeners who tune in to the station and support local radio. Have a great day!
